Langstroth Hive – 3 Things About the Langstroth Beekeeping Beehive

Are you looking for information about a beekeeping hive? If you are, you are not the first person that has been looking for these search terms and that is a reason why I am writing this article. This being, this article will focus on the Lansgtroth beehive, which is one of the types of hive that you may find used. Effectively, the main hives besides the Lansgtroth beehive are the top bar hive and the basket hive.

Firstly, one question that a person can wonder about is: “Do I have to build a hive?” To this question, I can respond by saying that no, you do not have to build a hive on your own. In fact, there are ready-made model that can be bought. This way you might end up saving the time that could have been spent setting up the hive from scratch.

Building your own Lansgtroth Hive

Now, maybe you are a person who does not bother building a hive as it could be an interesting experience. In fact, in this case also, you could find satisfaction by buying or ordering blueprints for a Lansgtroth beehive. What truly matters is that whether you decide to buy an already made beehive or you decide to construct your own; the final result should be one that will help you do beekeeping with assurance.
But what are the components of a Langstroth beehive?
If you are thinking about getting a Langstroth hive, you should expect to have certain elements that this passage of the article will enumerate. Effectively, parts of this type of beehive are:

• Outer cover
• Inner cover
• Shallow honey super
• Queen excluder
• Upper deep or food chamber
• Lower deep or brood chamber
• Slatted rack
• Bottom board
• Hive stand

Something that may be beneficial

Unless your hive comes painted, you may have to apply some coats of paint to its outer surface. Why should you do that? In fact, because the hive will be used outside and thus will be exposed to the weather, painting the hive should help you make it more resistant. However, certain parts should not be painted. These parts are the cover, the feeder, the frames and the hive bodies. Painting these sections could lead the bees to swarm because of the odor. Additionally, you may want to avoid that the paint gets in contact with the honey.

One does not have to build his/her Langstroth beehive. It is possible to purchase a hive that is already done and possibly save some time. This being if a person wants to build a beehive, getting a blueprint can help in achieving this task. However, if the Lansgtroth beehive does not come with painting on the surface, applying some coats could get you a hive that will be more weather resistant. Nevertheless, to preserve the quality of your honey for instance, certain elements of the hive should not be painted. Among those are the hive bodies and the frames.

Beekeeping Lessons – 1 Topic Briefly Discussed this Beekeeping Lesson

There are many subjects that could be discussed when it comes to beekeeping. However, in this beekeeping lesson, I plan to introduce one topic. This topic is backyard beekeeping.

Considering that regulations allow beekeeping in the place you live in, I am going to briefly mention some actions that can be performed In order to keep bees in ones backyard.

A high fence

Having a fence of at least 6 ft high around the hive could serve more than a single purpose. Once of the advantages of a fence are found in the fact that could conceal the hive.  The second possible advantage is found in the fact that a fence could lead the bees to fly higher; thus, there might be fewer chances to have the honey bees collide with people. Finally, another possible benefit that could be obtained is the protection from certain winds.

Water

Providing water to the honey bees is important. In fact, while the bees could travel long distances to find materials they need, it has still been advised to me to have a source of water in the backyard. This could be done with inverted jars.

Neighbors

The idea of having a beekeeper next door is not necessarily a pleasing though for everyone. Consequently, a beekeeper could try to ease up the apprehension of his/her neighbors in certain ways. One thing that could be done would be to offer some honey to the neighbors. Moreover, after the beekeeper is confident about his skills in beekeeping, he/she could invite the neighbors to show them his/her experience when working with bees.

Based on data from a major search engine, I came to know that many times searches had been performed around this keyword. In fact, it is not surprising that a person interested by this hobby wants to learn more about the steps that could be taken for beekeeping. If you want to learn more about some of the topics that can come up in beekeeping, I invite you to continue to read this article.

Beekeepers equipment

What are some of the tools that a beekeeper might come to use? First of all, talking about some tools that seem to be more turned towards the safety, we have the suit, the veil, the gloves, and the smoker. The veil, the suit and the gloves could help cover the body of the beekeeper. By avoiding exposing his/her body, the beekeeper might have fewer chances to be stung by the honey bees. But, what is the smoker? The smoker is a small kettle that could use burning chips of woods to produce smoke. This smoke could have for effect to calm down the bees.

What are some other tools that are associated to beekeeping? Two other beekeeping equipments aside from those mentioned earlier are the hive tool and the uncapping fork. The hive tool can help the beekeeper remove stuck woodwork or propolis (natural glue) from various sections of the hive. The uncapping fork could be advantageous when the cells filled with honey have to be opened. In fact, these cells will normally be capped with wax. The uncapping fork could then be used to open these cells.

Beekeeping Guide: Where to look for a beekeeping guide?

Are you looking for a beekeeping guide? If you are, in this article, I am planning to tell you about places where you could look for a beekeeping guide.

There are several places where a person could look for a guide to beekeeping. However, I find certain of the places I am going to mention riskier than one in particular.

One place that could be though about when looking for a book in particular, about beekeeping is a bookstore. If a person does not mind making the move to a store and then look for a book, then bookstores are places that could contain resources about beekeeping lessons in text format for example.

Online Bookstores

Places like Amazon or Barnes & Noble websites also could feature books about beekeeping. In fact, I personally prefer Amazon when it comes to getting physical books in general. Why do I prefer Amazon? I may be wrong because at this point I have used Amazon more than Barnes & Noble. Nonetheless, I find it easier to browse for books on Amazon. Additionally, there are sometimes a lot of reviews as well as ratings. The existence of several ratings for a single product could help make a choice.  Due to the customers feedback hat seems to be available on Amazon, I find it riskier to select a book there than at a local bookstore.

Beekeeping Websites

The last sources of beekeeping guides I had on my list are websites that concentrates on beekeeping. While there are many sites that appear to give information about beekeeping, If find it riskier to purchase a book from one of these sites. The reason for this is that it is possible that a person might not find the type of feedback that is presented on sites like Amazon.

Natural Care of Feral Bees – Can It Be Achieved

An post on http://ecosalon.com/backwards-beekeeping-natural-care-of-feral-bees/ by Stephanie Rogers mentions that:

“But treating honeybees with even more chemicals is just fueling the fire, according to one subset of beekeepers.”

I agree with the author on the fact that using chemicals is not the solution. In fact, with the negative consequences of some human beings’ creation, I have doubt in the ability of human beings to correct fully the mistake if we are the cause of it. Yes, bees lead to major benefits. However, I do not think that everyone measures how important they really are. Personally, I have used honey as a cure and I do not find pleasure in the fact that bees have been disappearing.

Beginners guide beekeeping, what can this mean? In fact, a small search on google led me to this expression. Apparently, the need for a beekeeping guide that is beginners friendly is real. As a result, I hope to give some tips to new beekeepers within this post.

Beekeeping done in a backyard, is it possible?

yes, based on my reading, beekeeping in a backyard is something that is possible. In fact, certain advice are given in my beekeeping guide about this topic. But, to give a resume of some of these tips, I will just make an enumeration of what can be done to keep bees in ones backyard.

  • Water: To keep honey bees in your backyard you should make available to them enough water. A source of water near the hive could prevent them to try to obtain it from other places.
  • A fence: Raising a fence of at least 6 feet high could not only help protect your hive but it can also hide it. Moreover, the bees could fly higher and thus there should be a lower probability of collision between the honey bees and people

Some Tools

Certain beekeeping equipment that are useful are the smoker, the beekeeping suit, the veil, the hive tool, the uncapping fork and the brush. This list is not exhaustive. However, you don’t necessarily have to get all of these tools at once.  This being, tools that are more directed towards the security are the smoker, the suit and the netted veil. The hive tool helps remove the natural glue, for instance. On the other hand, the uncapping fork is beneficial when extracting the honey from the wax caps.

Here a bit of information about beekeeping. I guess this could be included into something looked for as beginners guide beekeeping.
